Position Summary:

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies, College of Human Environmental Sciences at The University of Alabama seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track appointment. Sought are applicants with a promising record of research and teaching in the field of early childhood education, early childhood development and early learning, and/or child life. Desirable areas of expertise include early literacy, early STEM learning, early childhood curriculum evaluation, or other specializations in early care and education for typically developing children.

The successful candidate will be responsible for initiating, conducting, and publishing research, including procuring internal and external funding; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, including courses in the early childhood education teacher certification track and/or child life; mentoring graduate students; and engaging in service at the campus, community, state, and/or national level. Successful candidates also will support the department’s initiatives in distance education with possible online instruction.

Qualifications include: 1. A doctorate in Human or Child Development and Family Studies, Early Childhood Education, Child Life; or an equivalent field, 2. Evidence of scholarly work, including a strong research record, professional presentations and/or participation in grant submissions or success at grant funding, 3. Strong interpersonal skills, including effective oral and written communication skills, 4. Teaching experience in higher education, 5. Teaching experience in a birth to PreK program, 6. a state teaching certificate to teach in a Birth to PreK program, and/or Child Life Specialist certification, and 7. Knowledge of NAEYC Higher Education Standards and Accreditation, Quality Rating Improvement System, and experience with using instructional technologies (e.g., using TaskStream to create E-portfolios, edTPA).
