As a community of knowledge builders, we are looking for a productive, collegial, and creative colleague who, through their scholarship, research and teaching, will bring new perspectives to the synthesis of social work practice, policy, theory and research to our School and University.

As is expected of all senior faculty members in the School, the faculty member will be expected to mentor junior colleagues and students in developing and carrying out their research and scholarship activities.

ASSOCIATE OR FULL PROFESSOR IN SOCIAL WORK

Position Summary
The School of Social Work at The University of Alabama invites nominations and applications for a faculty person who is eligible for appointment at the rank of associate or full professor with tenure. The position is a nine-month, full time, 1.0 FTE academic appointment.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in social work, social welfare, or a closely related field. Candidates must show a record of funded research and scholarship in the areas of equine and or animal-assisted therapy. We are strongly invested in recruiting colleagues who demonstrate experience with knowledge of, and sensitivity to the needs of culturally diverse and underrepresented populations and communities, as well as a commitment to social justice. Applicants should have an interest and expertise in reaching our diverse student body through online and face-to-face instruction.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferable qualifications include an MSW with at least two years practice experience.

School of Social Work
The University’s School of Social Work, established in 1966, has an accomplished faculty of 22 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 11 full-time teaching faculty and 21 dedicated professional and support staff. The School has a long-standing internship program in Washington, DC and several international initiatives in locations including China, Hong Kong, Mexico, Ghana, South Korea, Scotland and Cuba. The School of Social Work has an active enrollment of approximately 382 students in the MSW program, 200 students in the BSW program, and 30 students in the Ph.D. program.

Our school enjoys excellent collaborative relationships with social service agencies throughout the state of Alabama. Additionally, there are many opportunities for interdisciplinary research within our school and university. Within the School of Social Work, we have the Youth Service’s Institute, whose funding comes from the Department of Youth Services and Department of Justice. Within the University, the School of Social Work will work in collaboration with the University of Alabama’s Therapeutic Riding Program.

We also have strong program relationships with the Capstone College of Nursing, Culverhouse College of Commerce, the Law School, the College of Engineering and the College of Community Health Sciences. Additional collaboration involves affiliations with the University’s research centers and institutes, including the Alabama Research Institute on Aging, Institute for Rural Health Services, the UAB Comprehensive Center for Aging, the Institute for Social Science Research and the Center for the Prevention of Youth Behavior Problems – all of which provide rich opportunities for interdisciplinary and inter-professional research and collaboration. Additional collaborations include those with the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s School of Public Health.

Residents are within easy driving distance of Birmingham, Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, the Gulf Coast, and the Great Smoky Mountains.

Compensation
Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation includes a benefits package with healthcare, reduced tuition rates, and retirement benefits.
