The Department of Psychology at The University of Alabama announces an opening for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in the Psychology-Law Concentration, which is part of the Clinical Psychology Program. The position is scheduled to begin August 16, 2017 and is appropriate for a clinical psychologist with research interests that fall within the broad domain of forensic psychology. This position will play an important role in our Ph.D. training program, which serves approximately 100 students in seven concentrations. The Clinical Psychology-Law concentration has three faculty lines with a wide range of interests. At present, the research interests of the faculty include jury decision making, psychopathy, forensic assessment, and intellectual disability within the forensic realm. The Psychology-Law concentration has a long-term working relationship with Taylor Hardin Secure Medical Facility which is the forensic mental health hospital for the state of Alabama and is located one mile from the campus. We also have relationships with Jefferson County Courthouse (located in Birmingham, AL), Tuscaloosa County Jail, and Bryce Hospital, Alabama’s largest inpatient psychiatric facility. The concentration welcomes applicants with research interests related to any area within psychology-law broadly defined; however, candidates with expertise that complements the interests of current faculty are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates are expected to seek external funding to facilitate their research. The Department provides unique opportunities for collaboration with faculty from the other clinical and experimental psychology concentrations within the Department.

Responsibilities for this position includes undergraduate and graduate teaching, research mentoring, development of an independent research program leading to external funding, and providing service to the University community and professional organizations. Candidates should have the following credentials: (1) Ph.D. prior to August 2017; (2) a graduate of an APA or CPA-accredited clinical psychology program; (3) completed an APA or CPA-accredited internship; and (4) eligible for Alabama licensure.

The University of Alabama, founded in 1831, is the flagship campus of a three campus system. The University is located in Tuscaloosa, a city of approximately 100,000 that was named an All-America City by the National Civic League.
